Abstract: XML (extensible mark-up language) is a well established format which is often used for semi-structured data modeling. XPath and XQuery are de facto standards among XML query languages. There is a large number of different approaches addressing an efficient XQuery processing. The aim of this article is to introduce a prototype of an XML database called QuickXDB integrating these state-of-the-art approaches. We primarily describe main concepts of QuickXDB with stress on our XQuery processor. Furthermore, we depict main challenges such as identification of patterns in an input query. Our experiments show strengths and weaknesses of our prototype. We outline our future work which will focus on a cost-based optimization of a query plan.
